"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly."

Practice and Treatment Philosophy

Psycho-Spirituality is a rapidly growing field within the context of psychology. It focuses on emotional and spiritual growth through the use of techniques designed to tap into energy, intuition and past lives. It is not specifically related to religion. Traditional psychotherapeutic methods are known to lift our vibrational levels to those that are inconsistent with depression, fear and anger as well as distressed physical states. In addition to or when those are ineffective in producing change added techniques and practices are available. These include mindfulness, hypnotherapy and EMDR.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a way of being more present in your body, your thoughts and your emotions. It is found in many spiritual traditions and is now gaining importance in Western medicine as a powerful tool for healing the mind and body. Techniques vary but essentially involve various hypnotic/meditative methods that produce inner balance and a great sense of control. Its principles include trust, acceptance, compassion, gratitude and awareness.

In addition to traditional modalities of psychotherapy described earlier, Dr. Winter offers various techniques such as journaling, creative visualization and meditation, dreams and past-life regression therapy.

Techniques of mindfulness have been found effective in dealing with many psychological and medical conditions, such as stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, headaches, fatigue, cancer and gastrointestinal, dermatological and cardiovascular disease. Deeper levels of awareness enable us to more effectively experience life and the world around us.

Hypnosis

Hypnosis is the practice of achieving an altered state of consciousness consisting of extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination. This is achieved through guided imagery/meditation so as to allow for the access to information and enhance change through suggestions.

Through the use of Hypnosis you will access your own inner power to achieve lasting change. Deep within your subconscious mind is all the wisdom and personal knowledge you need to attain measurable results in eliminating unwanted behaviors and releasing negative feelings. Hypnosis is a rapid effective way to effect change.

Hypnosis can be used to assist in:

Habit Control: Smoking Cessation, Weight Loss, Nail-Biting
Pain Management: Body and Cancer related pain, Pre-Surgical preparation
Stress Reduction, Relaxation and Ego-Strengthening
Anxiety and Panic: fears and phobias
Physiological Disorders: Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Migraine Headache
Memory Retrieval: Present Life and Past Life Regression Therapy
Sports Performance

Past-Life Regression Therapy

Past-life regression therapy (PLRT) is a technique of hypnotherapy whereby the patient is regressed back in time to a former lifetime. It is recognized by the mental health profession as an effective and important modality of treatment.

There are instances where methods of traditional psychotherapy are not able to bring about the desired change or removal of the symptom. Past hurts, losses, phobias, fears, compulsions, and even physical pains, for example, may have no relevance to something in the present life; instead there may be a connection to events in a prior lifetime. Recall of a past-life may assist in the ‘letting go’ of the symptom and result in subsequent healing. It is generally recommended that one’s current life be examined before PLRT is attempted.

Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a technique designed to remove the profound effects of prior traumatic experiences.

Emotional problems and destructive behavioral patterns are impossible to overcome when fueled by the ongoing influence of trauma. Enduring change requires the elimination of the potent effects of these memories or experiences. EMDR is powerfully effective in facilitating the elimination of pain from trauma, even when events are repressed or forgotten. Unconscious conflicts blocking desired change are identified, resolved and cleared out.

EMDR is particularly effect in the treatment of victims of accidents and crimes, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, PTSD, loss, performance anxiety and anxiety/panic. Whether the trauma is a single incident or something to which someone is exposed over a long period of time, EMDR can provide quick and lasting relief.

Through the use of a specific protocol, the traumatic memory is retrieved, bilateral stimulation, either via eye movements, tappers or both, is presented and the powerful effects of the memory reduced.

The length of treatment, like any therapy, varies depending on the process and goals of the patient. EMDR can be done alone or it can be incorporated into a more comprehensive therapeutic approach. EMDR sessions are generally done in longer sessions.

EMDR therapy is an accepted treatment for PTSD by the American Psychological Association (APA), Veterans Administration (VA), the Department of Defense (DOD) and The International Society for Traumatic Stress (ISTSS).
